Our Story
Discover the heart of Bishop Auckland People's Museum, a not-for-profit haven the museum powered entirely by dedicated volunteers. We invite you to explore our unique spaces and delve into the rich tapestry of local history.

The Hippodrome Theatre
Our museum resides within the historic Hippodrome Theatre, the last surviving purpose-built theatre/cinema in Bishop Auckland. Once a vibrant hub of entertainment, it now serves as a unique backdrop to our collection of local stories and artefacts. Today, the building operates as a bingo hall, adding another layer to its storied past.
Thankyou to Real Fun Group for allowing us to use its premises to house our museum.

A Journey Through Time
Founded in 2021, out of the merger of Auckland Railways Group and Bishop Auckland Remembrance garden, Bishop Auckland People's Museum was created as a space for the community to share their family treasures and memories of generations past. We offer insightful glimpses into local history, including our Remembrance Garden, heritage rail trail, and permanent Railway exhibition at the Four Clocks Centre on Newgate Street.

Our Hope For You
We hope that your visit to Bishop Auckland People's Museum is both enjoyable and insightful. We strive to provide a memorable experience, fostering a deeper appreciation for the past and a stronger connection to the community we serve.
